Nicholas Nethercote 6709720e4c Introduce ByteSymbol.
It's like `Symbol` but for byte strings. The interner is now used for
both `Symbol` and `ByteSymbol`. E.g. if you intern `"dog"` and `b"dog"`
you'll get a `Symbol` and a `ByteSymbol` with the same index and the
characters will only be stored once.

The motivation for this is to eliminate the `Arc`s in `ast::LitKind`, to
make `ast::LitKind` impl `Copy`, and to avoid the need to arena-allocate
`ast::LitKind` in HIR. The latter change reduces peak memory by a
non-trivial amount on literal-heavy benchmarks such as `deep-vector` and
`tuple-stress`.

`Encoder`, `Decoder`, `SpanEncoder`, and `SpanDecoder` all get some
changes so that they can handle normal strings and byte strings.

This change does slow down compilation of programs that use
`include_bytes!` on large files, because the contents of those files are
now interned (hashed). This makes `include_bytes!` more similar to
`include_str!`, though `include_bytes!` contents still aren't escaped,
and hashing is still much cheaper than escaping.

Nicholas Nethercote 835e6a694b Move methods from Map to TyCtxt, part 2.
Continuing the work started in #136466.

Every method gains a `hir_` prefix, though for the ones that already
have a `par_` or `try_par_` prefix I added the `hir_` after that.

Nicholas Nethercote d30f045fce Convert two rustc_middle::lint functions to Span methods.
`rustc_middle` is a huge crate and it's always good to move stuff out of
it. There are lots of similar methods already on `Span`, so these two
functions, `in_external_macro` and `is_from_async_await`, fit right in.
The diff is big because `in_external_macro` is used a lot by clippy
lints.

Esteban Küber 59392bec75 Introduce default_field_values feature
Initial implementation of `#[feature(default_field_values]`, proposed in https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/3681.

Support default fields in enum struct variant

Allow default values in an enum struct variant definition:

```rust
pub enum Bar {
    Foo {
        bar: S = S,
        baz: i32 = 42 + 3,
    }
}
```

Allow using `..` without a base on an enum struct variant

```rust
Bar::Foo { .. }
```

`#[derive(Default)]` doesn't account for these as it is still gating `#[default]` only being allowed on unit variants.

Support `#[derive(Default)]` on enum struct variants with all defaulted fields

```rust
pub enum Bar {
    #[default]
    Foo {
        bar: S = S,
        baz: i32 = 42 + 3,
    }
}
```

Check for missing fields in typeck instead of mir_build.

Expand test with `const` param case (needs `generic_const_exprs` enabled).

Properly instantiate MIR const

The following works:

```rust
struct S<A> {
    a: Vec<A> = Vec::new(),
}
S::<i32> { .. }
```

Add lint for default fields that will always fail const-eval

We *allow* this to happen for API writers that might want to rely on users'
getting a compile error when using the default field, different to the error
that they would get when the field isn't default. We could change this to
*always* error instead of being a lint, if we wanted.

This will *not* catch errors for partially evaluated consts, like when the
expression relies on a const parameter.

Suggestions when encountering `Foo { .. }` without `#[feature(default_field_values)]`:

 - Suggest adding a base expression if there are missing fields.
 - Suggest enabling the feature if all the missing fields have optional values.
 - Suggest removing `..` if there are no missing fields.

Nicholas Nethercote e785219238 Shrink TyKind::FnPtr.
By splitting the `FnSig` within `TyKind::FnPtr` into `FnSigTys` and
`FnHeader`, which can be packed more efficiently. This reduces the size
of the hot `TyKind` type from 32 bytes to 24 bytes on 64-bit platforms.
This reduces peak memory usage by a few percent on some benchmarks. It
also reduces cache misses and page faults similarly, though this doesn't
translate to clear cycles or wall-time improvements on CI.

Nicholas Nethercote e110231260 Improve AdtDef interning.
This commit makes `AdtDef` use `Interned`. Much the commit is tedious
changes to introduce getter functions. The interesting changes are in
`compiler/rustc_middle/src/ty/adt.rs`.

Nicholas Nethercote 5fa961b951 Overhaul TyS and Ty.
Specifically, change `Ty` from this:
```
pub type Ty<'tcx> = &'tcx TyS<'tcx>;
```
to this
```
pub struct Ty<'tcx>(Interned<'tcx, TyS<'tcx>>);
```
There are two benefits to this.
- It's now a first class type, so we can define methods on it. This
  means we can move a lot of methods away from `TyS`, leaving `TyS` as a
  barely-used type, which is appropriate given that it's not meant to
  be used directly.
- The uniqueness requirement is now explicit, via the `Interned` type.
  E.g. the pointer-based `Eq` and `Hash` comes from `Interned`, rather
  than via `TyS`, which wasn't obvious at all.

Much of this commit is boring churn. The interesting changes are in
these files:
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/arena.rs
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/mir/visit.rs
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/ty/context.rs
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/ty/mod.rs

Specifically:
- Most mentions of `TyS` are removed. It's very much a dumb struct now;
  `Ty` has all the smarts.
- `TyS` now has `crate` visibility instead of `pub`.
- `TyS::make_for_test` is removed in favour of the static `BOOL_TY`,
  which just works better with the new structure.
- The `Eq`/`Ord`/`Hash` impls are removed from `TyS`. `Interned`s impls
  of `Eq`/`Hash` now suffice. `Ord` is now partly on `Interned`
  (pointer-based, for the `Equal` case) and partly on `TyS`
  (contents-based, for the other cases).
- There are many tedious sigil adjustments, i.e. adding or removing `*`
  or `&`. They seem to be unavoidable.

Aaron Hill dda2aef64f Store a Symbol instead of an Ident in VariantDef/FieldDef
The field is also renamed from `ident` to `name. In most cases,
we don't actually need the `Span`. A new `ident` method is added
to `VariantDef` and `FieldDef`, which constructs the full `Ident`
using `tcx.def_ident_span()`. This method is used in the cases
where we actually need an `Ident`.

This makes incremental compilation properly track changes
to the `Span`, without all of the invalidations caused by storing
a `Span` directly via an `Ident`.
